How to choose a plant for your home

Start with light. If your spot is more than two metres from a window, look at the low-light filter — snake plant, ZZ plant, pothos, philodendrons. North-facing balconies in Mumbai or Bangalore get bright indirect light most of the day and are great for monsteras, fiddle-leaf figs, and calatheas. South-facing balconies and rooftops in Delhi or Chennai see direct sun — succulents, adeniums, and most flowering plants do well there.

Next, decide how much care you want to give. The 'easy' filter shows plants that forgive missed waterings. 'Moderate' plants ask for weekly attention. 'Expert' plants reward attentive owners with rarer foliage or blooms.

Pet-safe and child-safe plants

If you have cats, dogs, or curious toddlers, filter for pet-safe plants. Areca palm, bamboo palm, calathea, peperomia, and most herbs are non-toxic. Pothos, philodendron, monstera, dieffenbachia, and lilies are mildly to seriously toxic if chewed — we flag these on every product card so you can choose deliberately.

Air-purifying and vastu picks

NASA's Clean Air Study identified plants like areca palm, snake plant, peace lily, money plant, and rubber plant as effective at filtering common indoor air pollutants.
